California-10
San Diego's Ocean Beach is quiet at 4:30 am. Though California is known for sunsets I love the moonrise and the colors that the pre-dawn casts on the ocean.

Horseshoe Bend, Page AZ

horseshoe-bend-01
Horseshoe Bend, Page AZ. Just looking at this image takes my breath away and brings back the feeling of awe, thrill and vertigo that raced through my veins upon first contact with theis scene. A long walk through the sandy desert brings a person to this scene and you really don't see it until you are right up on it! The expansive scene is breathtaking and you look down 1000 feet to view the bend in the Colorado River below. I scooted carefully on my butt and laid on my stomach to look down and photograph this stitched image. My 18mm lens made four vertical images that were stitched to make this final image.

Great Egret -

Nature Photography galleries online.
More bird photography
Purchase Great Egret in Flight .With incredible grace this egret gave me wonderful opportunities to photograph! I sit for hours with these birds in the wild and soon they recognize me and accept me as simply a part of their world.
Here are some interesting from Cornell's website. The great egret nests in colonies with other species, in shrubs and trees over water, and on islands. *Great egrets feed in a variety of wetlands, including marshes, swamps, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, tide flats, canals, and flooded fields. The longevity record for a wild Great Egret is nearly 23 years!

Dynamic Bark Abstract

bark-0359
The beautiful bark from a fallen tree that I had to crawl under. I was mesmorized by the colors of the bark and as I got closer with my macro lens the colors became even more diversified.

Levis Mounds - Kristen's Cliff

Levis-Mounds-3391
Dreams take discipline ... disciplining your dreams
My gallery in Cable, at the Cable Nature Lodge, just ordered this image 22" x 50" inches long. I ordered one too for my own home (and for sale as 2 of 8 in this size). As I sit here this morning staring into it, I feel myself back in this place - connected to it even though physically I am here and not there. Like smells, pictures bring us back to places that hold meaning and/ or memories.

I first experienced Levis Mounds while Mountain biking with a friend. The land here is rich to my senses. I feel a draw to this spot at the base of this tree, the roots. These roots cradled my body as I fell asleep atop this cliff on the day that this image was made.

The tree symbolizes strength. Its roots exposed, the tree is vulnerable to the world. Though it is a part of its environment, it is unwavering in its discipline to be who it is regardless of how relentless the weather might be.
I sit and meditate at the cliff’s edge, feeling the wind on my cheeks and listening to the songs of the wild. It's a place where I can hear my heart. It's my "church".

The strength of the tree is a metaphor for my own life. As I sit upon this cliff I realize that my own dreams and who I am must also be as solid and as steadfast as this tree.
Who am I in this world takes focus and discipline. We all have dreams and to put them to action and to be clear on them takes an unwavering action as well. It is easy for me to be out enjoying nature with photography and running. The hard part is the part that comes later. Though the hard part for me is not in processing pictures or in marketing them, it’s in not being distracted by the "weather" around me.

Though I came away feeling enlightened and free, it takes discipline to remain there. Gazing upon this image on the wall of my living room reminds me!
Upon this cliff I know how I wish to create my life. After all, our lives are not automatically defined. We get to choose and I have been creating a life absent of days filled with appointments, time constraints, and deadlines. I have worked hard on creating a life style that would serve others while living my dreams. I want to spread little angel kisses on the world by sharing the beauty that I see around me. And I want to inspire others to connect to their own dreams and live them, even if just for a fragment of time within their busy day. I wish for all to connect and know themselves for who they are rather than for what they think is expected of them.
To do the above I knew that I needed to live this myself. The only way to reach those aspirations is to be it! My life is richer for it because living your dream is always the optimum. Though rich is not a monetary state for me, it is a measure of happiness, of living life to it’s fullest!

The stresses that come with the decision to live life according to the heart versus the "norm" are what often make it compelling to be distracted and set off coarse. Faith in one's dream is what keeps that dream alive and positive action towards the dream makes living the dream possible.
